Baba Yaga

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

The famous hag or Witch from Eastern Europe. Stories of her are popular in Russia, Poland, Czec Republic and Slovakia. Baba Yaga has the appearance of a peasant woman and travels through the air on a pestle and mortar with a fiery broom. She has teeth of stone or knives and lives in a house that bizarrely moves around on one chicken leg. Her house is surrounded by a bone like fence with skulls on top which shine light through their sockets. The house is situated between this world and the Otherworld. Baba Yaga can be very cruel and those who visit her may die. Sometimes she manifests her mouth as a cave and devours travellers who wander in. She maintains good order and punishes those who misbehave. Baba Yaga is good to women and others who seek her help giving them useful items for their quests. She creates such items with her pestle and mortar and cauldron of body parts. To those who fear her house and objects appear gruesome but to others who understand her true function, such things are quite pleasant. The fire-breathing Dragon, Chudo-Yudo lives with her as her pet that guards the Water of Life and Death. In earlier stories she is the divinity of life and death and is surrounded by herds and horses where she holds the reins of the four seasons and controls harvests and rain flow.

Balam - Demon

Friendly and Dangerous Friendly and Dangerous (behaviour)
Balam is the name of a Demon in ancient Demonology. He is a powerful king or sometimes duke who rules of the legions of demons in hell. He has the body of a human and three heads; one of a bull, one of a human and the other of a ram. He answers questions about the past, present and future. He is sometimes depicted naked riding a bear.

Re:

Magni

A Giant from the myths of Scandinavia and a son of Thor.
His name means 'Strength' and he has a brother called Modi whose name means 'courage'. His mother is the beautiful Frost Giantess Iarnsaxa.
The two brothers luckily survive Ragnarok where all the gods (except Baldr) and many Giants and monsters die. At the end of the battle they are lucky enough to claim Mjollnir - the magical hammer of Thor as Thor died trying to kill the Jorgmundar serpent.

Magni helps Thor in a nasty fight against the Frost Giant Hrugnir. When the two fight over a bitter row Thor eventually gets the upper hand and smashes his magical hammer into the skull of Hrugnir. The Frost Giants head splits into many pieces and the Giant falls over dead. One of the Giant's feet land and trap Thor to the ground. Thor tries all he can but exhausted by fighting he can do nothing. Thjalfi - Thor's friend fights and defeats the Frost Giant Mokkurkalfi and runs to help Thor but try as he can, Thjalfi can do nothing either.

Then Magni enters the seen to rescue his father. He is only 3 nights old but matured and big like any other Frost Giant. With his great strength coming from his enormous size, he lifts the foot off from the Thunder god rescuing him. Thor thanks is son and promises that as a reward he will give the dead Giant's horse to him. The horse was called Gold mane and was impeccably fast. When Odin, Thor's father learnt about what had happened - he scolded Thor for giving such a fine horse to an untrustworthy Frost Giant. Odin remarked that he should have got the horse (even though Odin already owns the undefeated horse Sleipnir).

Chiron

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

Chiron
Also known as Cheiron and later known as Sagittarius

Chiron is the heroic Centaur of Greek myth. He is the child of Cronos (who assumed the shape of a stallion a the time) the primordial god and of the Oceanic Nymph Philrya. He was known as a tutor teaching education, law and medicine because he was so highly educated. He taught many heroes and gods such as Aesculapius, Peleus, Theseus Jason and Apollo. He is seen adorned with a cloak of stars, with a dog by his side and holds an uprooted tree that holds his hunting prizes.
The name Cheiron means 'the hand', and is normally written as Chiron. He lived in a cave on the slopes of Mount Pelion. During the fight and chaos that ensued at the wedding of Pirithous, Chiron rushed to the rescue of Peleus and protected him from the angry and drunken Centaurs.

Chiron was also the host of the hunt for the Erymanthan Boar during one of the 12 tasks of Hercules. To entertain the guests, Pholus opened a jar of wine but the scent drifted through the air and caught the attention of some unruly Centaurs. They came and gatecrashed the scene, stealing the wine and becoming drunk. Hercules shot arrows from his bow. His arrows had been dipped in the poisonous blood of the Hydra and thus had become deadly on impact. Chiron ran as soon as the fight broke out but during his escape, he slipped and became impaled in one of Hercules' arrow. Because Chiron was immortal, he did not die but the poison now in his blood stream brought him constant agony. Prometheus looked down on Chiron with compassion and asked the gods him if he would allow the gods to take away his immortality so that Chiron could be spared eternal suffering. Chiron accepted and so the gods drew away his immortality and thus his life. Chiron flew to the sky where he became the constellation, Centaurus also known as Sagittarius.

Re: Creatures and other Myths

But there's separately constellations of Centaur and Sagittarius?

And apparently were already in the ancient Greek versions.
