Season 1 - Episode 3 - Dead Man's Party

With Simon being held captive at The Hotel DuMort, Clary pleads with Jace, Alec and Isabelle to help her rescue her best friend. As the team readies for the mission, Jace helps Clary learn more about her Shadowhunter powers, Isabelle turns to her favorite Seelie for Intel, and Alec begins to question Jace’s motives and his place in their partnership.
Meanwhile, a very scared Simon gets very up close and personal with Camille, the leader of the vampire clan.

Hey girls! I was just wondering something. Would it be a good idea to read a few of the books before watching the series or can I go at it cold? Thanks girls!

Re:

You can probably go at it cold, but you do need to start from episode one as there is a lot of back story going on that you need to have to understand what's going on.

I've only read the first book myself so [sign in to see URL] will get to the others one of these days! emoticon

Re:

You don't need to read the book because like most series or movies it doesn't stick real close to the books. The storyline is the same but they change some stuff too. I think you can catch up online. I'm pretty sure they are all available streaming at Freeform.

I'm not a girl so I'll probably see it [sign in to see URL]...

watching a show or movie based on a book is like driving a [sign in to see URL] can enjoy the contents pretty well without looking at the [sign in to see URL] only time that you need the map/book is when you get lost or get curious for more details later on...

Re:

That's generally true when they make books into movies. Unless they leave something major out, you rarely have to read the book first.

Re: Shadowhunters - Mortal Instruments series

what I find pretty weird [sign in to see URL] when you watch a tv series that was originally a movie (that you may not have seen)...

you are used to the tv series, and then for nostalgia purposes, you go back and watch the [sign in to see URL] think to yourself: this really sucks compared to the tv series...

examples:
MASH (the movie sucks, tv series great);
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (ditto);
Stargate (ditto);
Limitless (love the show, haven't seen the movie yet);
